Why alternating beats either one alone
Heat opens your blood vessels; cold closes them. Alternating does that repeatedly in a short window, moving far more blood through the tissue than either temperature alone — and the heat is what makes two minutes at 42°F achievable.

What it actually does
Soreness after hard training
The repeated flush of blood through muscle is the mechanism most people are here for. Book the day after a heavy session.
Cold, made possible
Few people can sit in 42°F water from cold. From a sauna, two minutes is achievable on a first visit.
Alertness that lasts
Cold raises norepinephrine sharply, and the effect outlasts the session by hours. It is why mornings book out first.
Voluntary discomfort
Voluntarily getting into cold water is a small, repeatable act of discomfort tolerance. Members talk about this one more than any physical benefit.
